How to Add a Child Who Already Has Messenger kids or Facebook for kids as a contact for your child
As a parent you can add a Childs contact from your Facebook account or through your Childs messenger kids’ app. follow these steps to add a child.

Messenger for Kids - Facebook for kids Add a Contact for Your Child

From the Facebook App;

  1. Tap on the Facebook icon.
  2. Scroll down and tap on messenger kids.
  3. Tap on your Childs name or contact.
  4. Select choose people.
  5. Scroll down to kids of your friends, you will see a list of your Facebook contact kids who have the messenger kids account.
  6. Tap on add next to any of the contacts.

From Facebook on the Desktop;

  1. Expand the explore section on the left hand of the screen.
  2. Scroll down and click on messenger kids.
  3. Select choose contacts. Click on kids of your friends on the left panel
  4. Click on the ‘add tab’ next to any of these contacts.

From Messenger Kids App;

  1. In messenger, kids app tap the ask to add a contact tab
  2. Your child should type the name of the person he or she wants to add and tap send
  3. You will receive a message as a parent that says your child has requested for you to add a person as a contact
  4. Tap on the message and then choose people
  5. Scroll down to kids of your friends to find the person your child has requested to add
  6. Tap on add next to the requested contact.

Note that the parent of the other child has to approve of the other child has to approve of the connection before both kids can chat.

How to Add a Child Who Doesn’t Have Facebook for kids Account

Just in case you do not see the contact your child wants to connect with in the kids of your friends’ list, know that the said child does not have a messenger for kids account yet. You, therefore, need to invite their parents to download the app for the child. To add a child who doesn’t have an account, follow these steps.

From the Facebook App;

  1. Tap on the bookmark icon on your Facebook app.
  2. Scroll down and tap on messenger kids.
  3. Tap into your Childs account.
  4. Tap choose people.
  5. A page will appear which says ‘can’t find one of your Childs friends’? Invite parents to get them the app, tap invite.
  6. Select the parent of the child you want to invite and tap invite.
  7. You will see the message about information on the app it wants to send them, you can add more context if you wish. Tap send.
  8. The other parent will receive a message along with a link to sign up their children for messenger kids.

From Facebook on the Desktop;

  1. Expand the explore section.
  2. Scroll down and click on messenger kids.
  3. Select close contacts and click on invite other parents on the left panel.
  4. Click on the parent of the child you want your child to connect with and select invite next to their names
  5. You will see a message Facebook will send them with information on the app. You can add more context if you want. Click send.
  6. The other parent will receive the message alongside the link to sign up their child for messenger kids.

From Messenger kids’ App;

  1. In the messenger kid app, your kid should tap the ‘ask to add a contact’.
  2. Type the name of the person they want to add.
  3. The parent will get a message saying your child has requested for you to add a person as a messenger kid contact.
  4. Tap on the message in your account.
  5. Select choose people, then select invite where it says can’t find one of your Childs friends? Invite their friends to get the app.
  6. Select the name of the parent of the child and click on invite next to their names.
  7. A message will be displayed containing information about the app. You can add more text if you wish. Then click send.
  8. The other parent will receive your message on their account along with a link to sign up their wards for messenger kids.

Note that when creating a messenger for kids account for your kid doesn’t mean you are creating a Facebook account for them. Contacts can be blocked by parents and kids. It is a fun full and an ad-free app.
